About Tiritamm
TIRITAMM publishing house has specialized on publishing literature for children
and young adults. The small enterprise TIRITAMM was established in Oct. 1, 1991
as a legal successor to the children’s literature division of the publishing
house Eesti Raamat. Its priority is to publish works of value only, both
originals and translations.
TIRITAMM presents to the reader Estonian classics of children’s literature,
including the works of Ernst Enno, Jakob Kõrv, Oskar Luts, and also contemporary
top-class authors like Heljo Mänd (the annual K. E. Sööt children’s poetry
award), Ellen Niit (IBBY Honor List), Aino Pervik (the annual award of Estonian
literature), Eno Raud (IBBY Honor List). Also the high level works of newcomers
have reached the reader through our publishing house.
The biggest part of our production is translations: the world classics
literature for children and young adults, and also the works of contemporary top
authors (Lloyd Alexander, Donald Bisset, Maria Gripe, Tjorbjørn Egner, Michael
Ende, Tove Jansson, Astrid Lindgren, Terry Pratchett, Ottfried Preussler, Philip
Pullman, J. R. R. Tolkien).
TIRITAMM hasn’t forgotten also the native and foreign folklore.
As illustrators, TIRITAMM has used both Estonian and foreign high-class book
designers (Björn Berg, Ülle Meister, Jaan Tammsaar (IBBY Honor List), Jirí
Trnka, Edgar Valter (IBBY Honor List), Ingrid Vang-Nyman, Ilon Wikland), and
also the works of younger Estonian book designers (Anne Linnamägi, Regina Lukk,
Juss Piho, Piret Raud, Reti Saks). Thanks to their work, TIRITAMM books are
always beautifully and tastefully designed, and have won renown both here and
abroad.
